Construction manufacturer Saint-Gobain is leading two high-level roundtable discussions focusing on the future off-site construction in social housing.
The international construction leader’s off-site construction team has engaged Frontier Public Relations to bring together leaders from across UK affordable housing to better understand their experiences and development strategies.
The new UK Government has announced ambitious plans to build an unprecedented 1.6 million new homes – including a significant number of affordable and social homes.
However, following a series of high-profile setbacks, questions are being asked as to the extent and appropriate role of off-site construction, or MMC, in the delivery of new affordable homes.
To help shape the off-site construction landscape, Saint-Gobain Off-site Solutions, has invited leaders from across the affordable housing market to discuss and debate key questions.
The first roundtable discussion was held in Manchester’s Bridgwater Hall on Tuesday, 17th September, and included participants from across the north west affordable housing market, including Onwards Housing, Torus, BTP Architects and Halton Housing.
A second off-site construction roundtable will then convene in central London on Tuesday, 10th October.
Chris Griffiths, Marketing Manager at Saint-Gobain Off-Site Solutions, said: “As the UK government seeks to build well over a million new homes over the next five years, we believe that offsite construction can play a significant part in supplying large numbers of affordable new homes that are both high quality and sustainable.
“But it’s important to ask, ‘how this should be done?’ and we’re keen to hear the shared experiences of social landlords.”
Chris continues: “We’re keen to hear the success stories as well as the barriers to progress, and we want to better understand how we can work more closely with customers to overcome challenges and embrace the proven solutions that can help build better homes faster.”
David Innes-Edwards, Managing Director at Frontier Public relations said: “Frontier PR is delighted to work with Saint-Gobain Off-Site Solutions – using our skills and knowledge of affordable housing to engage with the market.
“We stand on the cusp of an era of unprecedented housebuilding across the UK, so this feels like the perfect time to discuss the merits, realities and the future benefits of all categories of off-site construction.”
Post the completion of the roundtables, Saint-Gobain will post a short whitepaper summarising the key findings and points of discussion.
