Stockport community groups link up

Two Stockport groups are working together after being linked up by Stockport Homes and Seddon.

The Community Shed has been working hard making large wooden planters for local Muslim group Step Ahead, with materials provided by North West based builder and developer Seddon.

Stockport Community Shed is a group of people supported by Stockport Homes. The group enjoy DIY and like to meet with other members, helping to combat social isolation and increase wellbeing. The Step Ahead group is a non-profit organisation which helps local community members build confidence through fun activities.

Robin Burman, Chair of Stockport Homes’ board, said: “At Stockport Homes, we are proud to support thriving communities and groups in those communities. The Community Shed and Step Ahead are both fine examples of community groups coming together for the benefit of the people they represent. We are also grateful for the support of Seddon for their involvement with the groups.”Shareen Shazad from Step Ahead Community Group, said: “Everyone at Step Ahead would like to take this opportunity to thank Seddon, Stockport Homes and the Stockport Shed group for helping us with our gardening project by supplying the wooden planters.  It means that our members now have the opportunity to grow flowers, vegetables and fruit, helping to introduce children to the outdoor world as well as promoting healthy eating. It will also help to improve their confidence as well as teaching them new skills.”

Shareen concluded: “Working with another group in the area also helps us to achieve our aim of building stronger, closer communities that work together and have good relationships."

As part of the work, Seddon is working with Stockport Homes on a number of initiatives to support community groups in the area.
