· RPS to support gas safety compliance, ensuring energy reliability for social homes
· Contract will generate new jobs, including heating engineers and administration

RPS Group, a specialist domestic heating and renewables contractor, has been awarded a £1.1m gas servicing and repair service contract by Westmorland & Furness Council.
As part of the contract, RPS Group will maintain the safety and compliance of domestic gas boilers, whilst extending the lifespan of heating systems to reduce unplanned breakdowns.
Building on its extensive experience supporting social landlords with compulsory gas safety compliance, RPS Group will help the Council maintain 2,570 homes across Cumbria, including Barrow-in-Furness and Penrith.
The three-year contract began at the end of December 2025 and will see RPS Group deliver a responsive call-out maintenance service.
This will include repairs, statutory gas servicing, hardware component replacements, and the ongoing maintenance of central heating, hot water systems, and other gas appliances.
It will also generate new local jobs, with RPS recruiting experienced heating engineers and administrative staff to support the continued growth of its Carnforth office, which serves Cumbria, Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire.
This contract win follows RPS Group’s successful delivery of a £1.1m Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) scheme, which saw council homes benefit from low-carbon, energy-efficiency upgrades, including fabric insulation and heat pumps.
Graham Harcourt, Contact Supervisor for Westmorland & Furness Council, said: “Our tenants’ safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. It’s vital they have reliable heating and hot water, especially during the winter months, as many residents come from fuel-poor or otherwise vulnerable households.
“Having seen the quality of RPS’s work on previous projects, we were confident they had the expertise and capacity to deliver. They are a partner we can rely on to respond quickly and effectively across a geographically challenging area. Knowing we have a dependable team in place gives us real confidence that residents will receive the support they need, when they need it.”
Graham Rothwell, Owner and Founder of RPS Group, said: “As the North’s leading independent heating contractor, gas servicing and compliance are a core part of our business, and we’re pleased to bring that experience to Westmorland & Furness.
“Over recent years, RPS Group has expanded our operational footprint across the North, investing in the teams, technology and capacity needed to deliver reliable services.
“The acquisition of our Carnforth office marked an important step for RPS Group, helping us better serve homes across north Lancashire and Cumbria while creating local jobs. By investing in the area, we’re able to deliver a faster, more reliable service for residents and play our part in strengthening the local economy.”
