Discover how Sutton is Aiming Higher

South West London housing association to share remarkable approach to new homes

Wednesday, 20th August 2025

Progressive South-West London Housing Association, Sutton Housing Society, is to host an opportunity to go behind the scenes on its journey to redefine senior living.

A free industry event, Aiming Higher, will be held on the morning of Wednesday, 8th October and will bring together industry leaders from across social housing, development and senior living.

Aiming Higher will lift the lid on how Sutton has developed highly innovative new rooftop homes - delivering desirable housing for older people that includes some of the latest senior living innovations.

Rooftop or ‘airspace’ developments, homes built on existing buildings, could offer a high-impact, scalable way to delivering much-needed, new, affordable urban housing across the UK, especially where available land is limited.

Sutton Housing Society is in the process of delivering 170 affordable new homes, all without purchasing a single square metre of new land, many of which are now occupied.

However, airspace development is not without its challenges, and Aiming Higher will cover the significant opportunities available, if approached with the right mix of policy alignment, technology, and stakeholder engagement

You will hear from Chief Executive Robin Roberts, rooftop technical and design experts, innovators in senior living – plus residents.

Attendees will also learn how Sutton was recently named the nation’s Best Small Non-for Profit to work for by The Sunday Times, and the best Older Person Landlord in the UK Housing Awards.

Robin Roberts, Chief Executive at Sutton Housing Society, said: “The majority of Sutton’s 170 new homes are highly technical airspace developments, and, as many of these new homes are now occupied, I invite people to experience them first hand.
“Aiming Higher is an opportunity for the industry to hear Sutton’s senior living story, and learn from our knowledge, experiences and partners, whilst also gaining a useful technical background, because, for a smaller landlord, our aspirations have been bold, and we want to share what we have achieved.”

Free tickets are limited, and places are prioritised for housing professionals, but people from outside the social housing sector are welcome to register an interest (attendance is at the discretion of the organisers).

The event includes home accessibility manufacturers, PROCare and its in-house brand Invisible Creations, and experts and independent living technology innovators, Alertacall.
