Seddon showcases training programme to Chinese visitors

Builder and developer Seddon has hosted a delegation of senior Chinese officials to help them learn more about the UK’s apprenticeship model. 

The family-run firm, with offices in Bolton, Birmingham and Stoke, welcomed a group of 10 senior managers and lecturers from Shanghai College of the Environment, which has been named a lead college for international training and educations developments by the Shanghai Education Commission.

Delegates met with representatives from Seddon to discuss its proud history of continuously delivering apprenticeships in the construction sector over more than 80 years, before a visit to the company’s Chapelwood development, Wilmslow, where the firm is delivering 57 retirement apartments.

Nicola Hodkinson, from Business Services Director at Seddon said “We were delighted to welcome the delegation and honoured to learn of their interest in both Seddon and the UK’s apprenticeship model. It’s been hugely valuable to share knowledge on the subject”.

The visit was part of a three week tour organised by The University of Bolton to share best practice in the construction and built environment, and different approaches to environmental challenges.

Head of the delegation, Vice-Principal Lu, Is keen to explore opportunities to collaborate with the University to provide training for its lecturers and those from more than 100 vocational colleges in Shanghai.

Martyn Shaw, the University’s Director of Business Development said, “Seddon has invested a lot of time in the visit, which was greatly appreciated by the Shanghai College delegation, and by the University.

“The delegates were very impressed by the Seddon story. The enviable track record Seddon enjoy regarding apprentice recruitment was another area the visiting delegation focused on, along with the Chinese contribution to the construction supply chain. "
