Secure to host Supported Housing Tech Webinar

Learn how new connected technology improves supported housing service efficiency & residents' lives

Leading care technologist Secure will be hosting two Innovation in Independent Living webinars later this month examining how new connected technology can help tackle some of the escalating challenges in supported living.

Extra care housing and the care sector as a whole is facing a range of challenges, including the worst staffing crisis in living memory, but new disruptive technology is now offering new approaches to worsening problems.

A recent open letter from several large not-for-profit housing providers, including Anchor Hanover Group and Sanctuary Housing, warned the government of the realities of staffing in care.

According to the providers, which care for around 95,000 older people, staff turnover in the sector (the level of staff leaving for new jobs) is up to 30% and rising.

Covid-19 has disrupted virtually every aspect of the senior care industry, magnifying existing frailties and creating new ones.

It has turned a looming staffing shortage into a crisis of epic proportions, preventing supported housing providers from delivering essential care to many people who need it. This is leading to increasing numbers of people having to stay in hospital unnecessarily as they are unable to access care packages and be safely discharged.

Supported housing providers also face the task of updating all analogue tele-care systems, such as pendant or pull cord alarm systems, ahead of the 2025 digital switchover deadline.

Secure, developers of a new suite of smart connected care solutions called Beanbag Care, are hosting the webinars at 11am on the 20th and 21st October, examining how connected TEC can offer supported housing providers and their residents a myriad of benefits.

The Beanbag Care solution enhances the provision of extra care services, whilst improving the resident experience and allowing them to live safely in supported housing for longer.

Paul Botsford, Head of Assisted Living at property technologists Secure, said: “The care sector is facing a number of serious issues that have been exacerbated by the Covid-19 crisis.

“In light of these issues it felt like a prudent time to be hosting our next series of Innovation in Independent Living webinars, this time examining how new connected technology can deliver significant operational efficiencies for supported housing providers and those delivering care.”

Botsford continued: “The webinars are a useful opportunity for supported housing providers to learn about the latest intelligent in-home monitoring solutions that help to overcome some of the challenges they’re facing in the delivery of their services, whilst also enhancing the independent living experience for residents.”

The free forty-five minute sessions, offer delegates the opportunity to hear jargon free presentations from assisted living specialists, and the opportunity to ask questions.
